Tripods & Monopods
A monopod also referred to as a unipod is a single pole used to support a camera. The camera can be mounted directly to the top, however this limits it mobility to move horizontally, so some consider a head which allows the camera to swing 90 degrees for vertical compositions. Monopods are great for shooters on-the-go. A monopod also offers more flexibility over a tripod because you can move and sway it; you aren't locked into one location. Another great feature of the monopod is they are lightweight and collapsible. Tripods are three legged objects used to support and stabilize cameras. Unlike the monopod which requires you to hold it up, a tripod will stand on its own. Grab your tripod if you plan on shooting subjects that do not move like landscapes and cityscapes or when you don't plan on moving often. What you are shooting and how you plan to shoot will determine which one is better for your shooting needs.
